چکیده

Carbon nanotubes (CNT) are produced from a rare variety of natural vein graphite (VG) distinctive to Sri Lanka using electric arc discharge. Electric arc-discharge produces both single walled and multi walled nanotubes. The products are characterized using high resolution electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy for verification and validation. Keywords—CNT, vein graphite, arc discharge, SWCNT

Enhanced Photocatalytic Hydrogen Production on TiO2 by Using Carbon Materials

The effect of carbon materials on TiO2 for the photocatalytic hydrogen gas production from water / alcohol mixtures was investigated. Single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs), multi walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs), carbon nanofiber (CNF), fullerene (FLN), graphite (GP), and graphite silica (GS) were used as co-catalysts by directly mixing with TiO2. Drastic synergy effects were found with increas...

Oxidized graphite and carbon fiber (US)

51) Int. Cl. (57) A mechanochemical oxidation process that allows relatively benign oxidizers to be used for the production of at least partially oxidized graphite, and a method of preparing a carbon fiber using oxidized graphite and a fiber component. Partially oxidized graphite is fully dispersible in water and can be used to prepare thin films with conductivities rivaling pure graphite. This...

Synthesis of carbon nanotubes by rolling up patterned graphene nanoribbons using selective atomic adsorption.

We demonstrate a new method (U.S. Patent Appl., serial no. 60/908039) for synthesizing carbon nanotubes (CNTs), using first-principles and classical molecular dynamics simulations. The single-walled nanotubes (SWNTs) are formed by folding graphene nanoribbons patterned on graphite films through adsorption of atoms of varying coverage, which introduces an external stress to drive the folding pro...

Structure and Applications of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (SWCNTs) Synthesized Using the CoMoCAT Method

The unique properties of single-walled carbon nanotubes are a direct result of their distinctive structure, which is composed of C-C bonds more closely related to those in graphite than to those in diamond. That is, while diamond has a coordination number of four with sp hybridization, graphite involves three-coordinated carbons, in which three electrons are in sp hybridization and one is deloc...

Electronic Structure and Optical Limiting Behavior of Carbon Nanotubes

Carbon nanotubes prepared by catalytic (CO) disproportionation were studied using TEM, XRD, UPS, XPS, and optical spectroscopies. In comparison with graphite, the carbon nanotubes show greater interplanar distance, smaller work function, steeper Fermi edge, negative core-level shift, and stronger plasma excitation. Their valence band is basically the same as that of graphite, with lower intensi...
